Water is all you need to remove tough stains like red wine, tomato sauce and pet mishaps. This is thanks to the breakthrough Redbook Green triexta carpet fibres that are negatively charged, naturally repelling spills to prevent stains. At Redbook, our commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement has led us to explore innovative solutions in our manufacturing processes. We are committed to delivering carpets that Australians trust underfoot – but just as importantly, we’re committed to doing our part for the environment. In line with our dedication to reducing environmental impact, we have initiated a project to trial recycled PVC cores in our carpet manufacturing.Previously, our carpet rolls utilised disposable cardboard cores and imported polypropylene cores from the United States. Seeking a more sustainable and locally sourced alternative, we partnered with Think Manufacturing, a Portarlington-based company renowned for its expertise in recycled PVC products. Together, we are trialling cores made from 98% recycled PVC, aligning with our goals of reducing waste and supporting local manufacturing.To make this all possible, Think Manufacturing arranged for specialised tooling to be manufactured in China on our behalf. This custom tooling is designed to support the extrusion process, allowing recycled PVC plastic to be formed into strong, high-quality carpet cores that meet the demands of our production environment.The project commenced 12 months ago and is currently being trialled in Plant 5. We’re working closely with our teams on the ground to ensure the new cores meet the high standards of durability and performance. This initiative reflects our ongoing efforts to integrate sustainable practices into our operations, ensuring that our products not only meet the highest standards of quality and comfort but also have a low environmental footprint.

Engineers have discovered an innovative way to enhance concrete strength and reduce cracking by incorporating scrap carpet fibres.<a href="#_ftn1">[1]</a> This exciting development not only improves the durability of concrete but also promotes product circularity in the construction industry. The research team, collaborating with partners like Textile Recyclers Australia and Godfrey Hirst, is testing concrete made from recycled textiles.&nbsp;Dr. Chamila Gunasekara, a lead researcher from RMIT University, explained that their technique can reduce cracking in concrete by up to&nbsp;30%, improving its durability. This is crucial, as repairing cracks in reinforced concrete structures costs Australia around&nbsp;A$8 billion&nbsp;annually."Cracking in early-age concrete slabs is a long-standing challenge in&nbsp;construction projects&nbsp;that can cause premature corrosion, not only making a building look bad but also risking its structural integrity and safety," said Dr. Gunasekara, an ARC DECRA fellow from the School of Engineering.Laboratory tests confirm that this innovative concrete meets Australian standards for quality and environmental safety. Earth Day 2024

On the 15th of March 2024, Redbook Carpets held our largest Take 3 for the Sea clean-up event to date, but this time in our Head Office’s backyard alongside the Barwon River with our biggest team yet! We are proud to be an official supporter of the Take 3 for the Sea organisation for the fourth year in a row. 
In just an hour, our team of 40 people, along with Take 3 for the Sea representatives, collected 1,488 litter items weighing an astounding 34.5kg altogether! Take 3 for the Sea is an important organisation that works to remove litter from our environment which helps to protect our animals, ecosystems, and waterways.

The Redbook Carpets team joined forces with Take 3 for the Sea along the Barwon River in South Geelong for a riverside clean-up event. A total of 34.5kg was collected by the Redbook Carpets team, totalling 1488 items in one hour, the litter filled 5 garbage bags!&nbsp;

Bianca Juresko, Senior Team Manager – Infrastructure

Bianca reflects on International Women's Day (IWD) by emphasising the theme of ‘Invest in Women’. With over 20 years of experience at Godfrey Hirst, she acknowledges the positive changes in the company's gender representation, particularly in the executive leadership team. Taking real climate action as an organisation means voluntarily going above and beyond current regulations to achieve net zero carbon emissions. At Redbook Carpets, we do. Redbook Carpets is a brand of Godfrey Hirst Australia has achieved Climate Active Carbon Neutral organisation status and is proud to be the first Australian carpet manufacturer to do so.

The Australian government program Climate Active recognises businesses that take voluntary climate action to measure, reduce and offset carbon emissions. Redbook Carpets’ Climate Active membership and certified carbon neutral organisation status demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and industry leadership to drive genuine change1.

One carbon offsetting project we have supported is the Yunnan Yuanjiang Lutong Hydropower Station is located in Yunnan Province, China2. A factor in our decision to support this project was the fact that several of our hard flooring suppliers are located in China. The project is a diversion-type run-of-river hydropower station with an installed capacity of 10MW generating approximately 52,920MWh of electricity annually. &nbsp;The project reduces the emission of greenhouse gases by replacing equivalent electricity from the China Southern Power Grid, which is dominated by fossil fuel-fired power plants.

Utilising water resources of the Du River and delivering an annual average of 1,105,800 MWh of electricity to the Central China Power Grid, this project upholds the UN Sustainability Development Goal of taking urgent climate action. Local electricity demand was previously supplied by the Hubei Grid, comprised predominantly of non-renewable coal power plants. This hydropower plant has a total installed capacity of 500MW and reduces the emission of greenhouse gases by replacing traditional thermal power with renewable hydropower.

One carbon offsetting project that we have supported is the ‘Carbon Conscious Carbon Capture Project 1’ which is a reforestation project across 14 properties totalling 5,700ha in the Central and Northern Agricultural Regions of Western Australia. &nbsp;We chose this project as a reflection of our Australian Made operations, with all of our soft floor coverings made in Australia. From 2009 to 2010 over 6 million native species Mallee trees planted on land previously cleared for dryland cropping and grazing. Registration as a Carbon Farming Initiative Project included commitment to maintaining the forest for a minimum of 100 years. This region in Western Australia was recognised as significantly over-cleared, and the reforestation is: providing protective habitat for native flora and fauna; reducing wind and water erosion; in some cases reducing soil salinity and some cases providing a useful environment for sheep and honey bees.

On the 17th of March 2023 Redbook and the wider Godfrey Hirst organisation held our largest Take 3 for the Sea beach clean-up event to date! This now being our third beach clean-up event in as many years, as well as continuing to be an official supporter of Take 3 for the Sea, we are proud to get behind such an important organisation.

In only one hour, our 31-person strong team along with Take 3 for the Sea representatives collected 1,657 litter items weighing 7kg altogether. Working to remove this litter from our environment helps to protect our animals, ecosystems, and oceans.

We’re doing better together, to recycle our metal waste. Redbook strive to recycle wherever possible to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing operations. We’re always looking for new ways to reduce what we send to landfill.

Sims Metal regularly collect metal scraps and old unused machinery from our manufacturing operations. With 36,900 kilograms of metal collected by Sims Metal from Redbook&nbsp;premises in 2022. All metal is then processed or broken down in order to be repurposed. All of the metal collected from our sites here in Geelong is reused and repurposed within Australia.

At Redbook, efforts to advance our shared mission of a more sustainable future continue. Having already fitted 436 solar panels on our warehouses in Truganina and Laverton, we’ve now completed our largest ever installation.&nbsp;

Plant 5, our North Geelong carpet tufting facility, is now the proud owner of a 500kW solar system. Covering 12,000m2 of the facility’s roof, the 1,088 460W panels generate up to 1.97MWh of clean energy per day, offsetting over 60% of daytime electricity. &nbsp;

This will help to power the production of over 16,000 lineal metres of carpet each day and reduce electricity bills at the Plant by an average of 28%.

To deliver this transformation, we used Tier 1 JA Solar 460W monocrystalline solar panels on the north facing side of the Plant, together with SolarEdge three phase inverters and optimisers. Recognised amongst the best bankable solar technology globally, the optimisers increase system production by tracking the maximum power of each panel.&nbsp;

The smart meter technology from SolarEdge also provides load monitoring, so we can see how much solar power is being consumed on site and exported. Plus, real-time monitoring of individual panels, making it easy to find and diagnose any faults.

As a proud Australian manufacturer, it’s important to us that we source and develop local solutions where possible.

By transforming the Plant 5 roof into an energy resource, we’re not only cutting operating costs locally, but carbon emissions globally.&nbsp;

It’s another Resource Stewardship initiative that supports our Climate Active Carbon Neutral Organisation certification to cut greenhouse gas emissions across the entire business. Now at Plant 5, any surplus solar not consumed by the plant will be exported to the grid, and we’ll offset approximately 515 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

Striving for better, Redbook is on a journey to achieving a circular economy, by repurposing and recycling end-of-life flooring products. We’re always looking for new ways to reduce what we send to landfill.

Geelong based company GT Recycling, supported by Deakin University, approached Redbook with the idea of recycling pre-consumer carpet waste and turning it into an innovative recycled reinforced concrete product. Eager to assist, we offered our carpet waste and industry knowledge to assist in the development of the concept product - FibreCrete.

As an Australian and New Zealand manufacturer, we actively work towards reducing our environmental footprint across our infrastructure and facilities. We strive to improve processes and seek to source and develop local solutions to this global issue under our sustainability vision, Believe in Better.

Large factory and warehouse facilities generally require a sizeable system for lighting. These systems can result in a significant energy drain so, with that in mind, we upgraded our lighting systems to energy-efficient LED lights.

Between late 2021 and early 2023, we have replaced approximately 75% of the lights at our Plant 5 and Melbourne Logistics sites and our South Geelong and Breakwater sites with higher-efficiency LED models. This was achieved through the LED Light Replacement/Upgrade under the Victorian Energy Upgrades rebate program.

The light fittings replaced included high-bay units in production and warehousing areas, as well as 4-foot battens, some oyster-style lights in bathrooms and small offices, and some panel-style fittings in office areas. Exit lights were also replaced at Plant 5 with an LED version.

The new fittings include programable features such as motion sensors, light level sensors and automatic timer-off functions to allow us to configure the operation of the light fittings to suit the environment and application – maximising energy savings.

Dye Washing 
With the introduction of a new dye washing line which has dramatically reduced our energy consumption and water consumption within this process which will save 500 Litres per minute of water during a production run. Latex Application 
Latex application during our manufacturing process utilises water to adhere a secondary backing to the carpet. We have recently introduced a new initiative that recycles the water utilised in our latex application process which is done weekly in large batches. This new initiative has resulted in significant water consumption savings with 600L less water being used every 14-tonne latex batch.

Try warm water Most common carpet stains caused by household food and beverage (not containing strong dyes) can be treated with warm water (not hot) applied to the carpet stain immediately. Test it first Pre-test the stain removal treatment on a small, less conspicuous area of carpet to make sure it doesn't damage or change the carpet colour.8. Press the carpet dry between treatments Press dry the carpet with a clean white towel or paper towel to remove excess moisture between any steps in the cleaning process.9. Dry the carpet Once the spill has been treated, place a few layers of paper towel or white cloth over the area and weigh it down with a couple of heavy books, an upturned coffee table or something heavy that won't transfer colour. This will absorb any residual moisture.10. Don't walk on the carpet until it's dry Cover the mark with a chair or coffee table, make sure no one walks on the carpet until it is completely dry. Even once it is dry to touch the pad underneath may still be damp, keep it free from foot traffic as long as possible. A hairdryer and also speed up the drying process, but be sure not to overheat the area and scorch your carpet.11. Remember, don't rub and don't scrub You see how important it is that you blot and don't scrub? It's so important we mentioned it twice!12. Here at GH Commercial, we are a proud partner of Dreamtime Flooring, bringing the work of their artists to life with our local manufacturing technology right here in Geelong, Victoria. Together, we work to support Dreamtimes vision of sharing Indigenous culture and artwork for future generations.

Dreamtime Flooring was born in 2022 from a deep aspiration drawn from director, Josh Haddock’s connection to Indigenous culture, this is the essence of Dreamtime Flooring: the missing link connecting culture, artwork and flooring. This can only come from engaging with a 100% Indigenously owned business-like Dreamtime Flooring. Josh being a Yorta Yorta man raised in Morwell, VIC on Gunai Kurnai Country himself, wanted to create a business that celebrated the Indigenous culture through flooring while engaging with other Indigenous businesses, helping to streamline income back into Indigenous communities.

For generations, Indigenous people have shared culture through stories and artwork. At Dreamtime Flooring, Indigenous heritage is drawn from to celebrate this rich culture through the flooring medium in the hopes of preserving those stories for our future generations. 

Dreamtime's mission is to have as many buildings as possible for current and future generations to see Aboriginal ancestry and culture with a particular focus on public buildings: Government, council, schools, libraries and galleries. Their intention is not only focused around sharing their culture with generations to come but also to engage these future generations with employment opportunities, apprenticeships and traineeships, as they believe it is a vital step into raising a talented, educated Indigenous community with the footprints to walk towards the future.

<h2>Three Tile System</h2>
Nutopia 2.0 is designed to transition across the floor or create defined areas in the built environment. Urban Fringe II, Urban Passage II, and Urban Field II’s progressive colour composition works together as a dynamic system or separately, depending on the desired configuration, end-use and budget. Due to its unique construction and texture, Urban Canvas installs separately, ideally suited for large, open spaces.

Colour is like music: it carries you into a different frame of mind, sparking new emotions and inspiring deeper connections to your world. Chromatic Cadence is inspired by the work of artist Yvette and her use of music as a starting point for her expressive, colour-filled paintings.
The Chromatic Cadence modular carpet collection imagines colour as melody, creating a tonal rhythm across the floor and inviting flights of imagination or meditative calm.

With our desire to stay in harmony with nature, even when far from it, urban design is increasingly blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor environments. And flooring lays the groundwork for this connection.

Using the principles of biophilic design, the Native Collection sets a soothing foundation in places where people work, live and heal. Inspired by the bark grain of trees native to Australia and New Zealand, the designs transform cold spaces into warm habitats through repetitive organic patterns.

landscape promotes wellbeing and productivity, as shown by evidence-based design. The collection’s colour palette comprises five natural hues that span three designs – Eucalypt, Ironbark and

The Classic Weaves Collection utilises classic weaving patterns with a modern and contemporary perspective to deliver inspiring designs utilising the ever-popular Fast Track® colour library. The addition of distressed and textured effects adds individual elements to each product.

Utilising a colour palette that evokes a sense of confidence and self-possession. Poised and serene, stylish and classy, the collection of neutrals will bathe your space with an atmosphere of relaxation, amiability and cosiness.

Pulling inspiration from a range of classic and well-loved weaving patterns such as tartan, houndstooth and tweed as well as a range of influential European fabric trends. This collection offers a wide range of patterns available in one colour palette to allow for use of multiple designs across one project as well as custom colour opportunities, the opportunities are near endless.

Classic Weaves

Optic Reset is a modular carpet collection that consists of two mid-scale Field of View patterns, and coordinating texture – Shifted Focus, both of which have been created using elements from photography, illustration, and graphic design. Using positive and negative space, creating tonal shifts, and pushing boundaries of abstracted subject matter, Optic Reset allows you to create your own visual narratives with dual styles in shifting colourways of light and dark. The visuals give us cues for our other senses, and they are how we understand the world. And with Optic Reset, interior space can be created with subtle or dramatic views on the floor.

This concept is illustrative of The Visual Age, where there is visual literacy and creative democracy for all, and we have become fluent in the elements of graphics, photography, design, and art. Social media especially has influenced this, allowing for self-expression and creativity to come together to unite us with a sense of purpose on our collective path.

Optic Reset

<h2>Lichen Community, inspired by multi-hued, multi-textured lichens.</h2>
Meet Lichen Community, designed in collaboration with McLennan Design, a modular carpet collection that connects us to a more restorative future. Inspired by expansive communities of lichens that grow together on bark and rock formations, playing a role in our ecosystems, the Lichen Community collection has been designed to provide a refined solution for creating collaborative environments, bringing people together. Rooted in the concept of symbiosis, Lichen Community defines communal spaces through colour and texture. This fresh take on the original Lichen collection offers an additional bark texture to join the popular stone base, serving as ground textures for the multi-hued lichens that grow together in place.


<h2>Biophilic design, locally made</h2>
Biophilic design aims to enhance humankind’s innate biological connection with nature, bringing natural elements into interior spaces and mimicking natural patterns. This new collection concentrates on mimicking the growth patterns of real lichens on stone and tree bark, incorporating colours that takes us on a visual journey through the forest, from the floor into the trees with the new warm, bark-grey background and soft, more muted highlights. Drawing from the natural world allows us to create spaces a little more connected to our roots, which can have a profound impact the health and wellbeing of building occupants.

One of the key features of Lichen Community is its biophilic three-plank system which allows for wayfinding and the creation of unique large-scale installations. By setting the more visually active Macro Bloom II style in a field of the Stone Community of Bark Community style, transitioning between them with Micro Bloom II, resulting in an organic, seamless installation. All four styles can be also used on their own or combined as desired, delivering an infinite variety of organic floorscapes to support biophilic space design. 

Made locally in Australia with the latest Pattern Perfect™ tufting technology, the Lichen Community Collection is now available faster than ever and like all our Australian made carpet tiles, and is Declare Red List Free.

These canvases are not necessarily blank and often bring affordances or limitations, depending on our personal and social circumstances. Even so, it’s up to us what we do with our canvas. When society is equitable and inclusive, we each have the agency to create a completely new story - our own. The Social Canvas collection speaks to the triumph of the human spirit. This collection is a result of a collaboration with ArtLifting, using the work of artist Charlie French as a point of departure.
