Redbook Green carpets have permanent stain resistance built into the core of each triexta fibre that will never wear or wash off (compared to regular carpets that have a topical stain protection treatment). Water is all you need to remove tough stains like red wine, tomato sauce and pet mishaps. This is thanks to the breakthrough Redbook Green triexta carpet fibres that are negatively charged, naturally repelling spills to prevent stains. Put simply, staining can occur on regular carpets when a spill bonds to the fibre. But Redbook Green triexta carpets have no dye sites, preventing spills from adhering and becoming stains. Spills sit on the outside of the fibre where they can be easily washed away with just water.

At Redbook, our commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement has led us to explore innovative solutions in our manufacturing processes. We are committed to delivering carpets that Australians trust underfoot – but just as importantly, we’re committed to doing our part for the environment. In line with our dedication to reducing environmental impact, we have initiated a project to trial recycled PVC cores in our carpet manufacturing.Previously, our carpet rolls utilised disposable cardboard cores and imported polypropylene cores from the United States. Seeking a more sustainable and locally sourced alternative, we partnered with Think Manufacturing, a Portarlington-based company renowned for its expertise in recycled PVC products. Together, we are trialling cores made from 98% recycled PVC, aligning with our goals of reducing waste and supporting local manufacturing.To make this all possible, Think Manufacturing arranged for specialised tooling to be manufactured in China on our behalf. This custom tooling is designed to support the extrusion process, allowing recycled PVC plastic to be formed into strong, high-quality carpet cores that meet the demands of our production environment.The project commenced 12 months ago and is currently being trialled in Plant 5. We’re working closely with our teams on the ground to ensure the new cores meet the high standards of durability and performance. This initiative reflects our ongoing efforts to integrate sustainable practices into our operations, ensuring that our products not only meet the highest standards of quality and comfort but also have a low environmental footprint.

Earth Day 2024

On the 15th of March 2024, Redbook Carpets held our largest Take 3 for the Sea clean-up event to date, but this time in our Head Office’s backyard alongside the Barwon River with our biggest team yet! We are proud to be an official supporter of the Take 3 for the Sea organisation for the fourth year in a row. 
In just an hour, our team of 40 people, along with Take 3 for the Sea representatives, collected 1,488 litter items weighing an astounding 34.5kg altogether! Take 3 for the Sea is an important organisation that works to remove litter from our environment which helps to protect our animals, ecosystems, and waterways.

The Redbook Carpets team joined forces with Take 3 for the Sea along the Barwon River in South Geelong for a riverside clean-up event. A total of 34.5kg was collected by the Redbook Carpets team, totalling 1488 items in one hour, the litter filled 5 garbage bags!&nbsp;

One carbon offsetting project we have supported is the Yunnan Yuanjiang Lutong Hydropower Station is located in Yunnan Province, China2. A factor in our decision to support this project was the fact that several of our hard flooring suppliers are located in China. The project is a diversion-type run-of-river hydropower station with an installed capacity of 10MW generating approximately 52,920MWh of electricity annually. &nbsp;The project reduces the emission of greenhouse gases by replacing equivalent electricity from the China Southern Power Grid, which is dominated by fossil fuel-fired power plants.

Yunnan Yuanjiang Lutong Hydropower Station Offsetting Project

One carbon offsetting project we have supported is the Hubei Duhe Pankou Hydropower Plant in China, located on the Du River, in Zhushan Country, northwest of Hubei Province, China4. &nbsp;A factor in our decision to support this project was the fact that several of our hard flooring suppliers are located in China. Utilising water resources of the Du River and delivering an annual average of 1,105,800 MWh of electricity to the Central China Power Grid, this project upholds the UN Sustainability Development Goal of taking urgent climate action. Local electricity demand was previously supplied by the Hubei Grid, comprised predominantly of non-renewable coal power plants. This hydropower plant has a total installed capacity of 500MW and reduces the emission of greenhouse gases by replacing traditional thermal power with renewable hydropower.

Duhe Pankou Hydropower Plant Offsetting Project

One carbon offsetting project that we have supported is the ‘Carbon Conscious Carbon Capture Project 1’ which is a reforestation project across 14 properties totalling 5,700ha in the Central and Northern Agricultural Regions of Western Australia. &nbsp;We chose this project as a reflection of our Australian Made operations, with all of our soft floor coverings made in Australia. From 2009 to 2010 over 6 million native species Mallee trees planted on land previously cleared for dryland cropping and grazing. Registration as a Carbon Farming Initiative Project included commitment to maintaining the forest for a minimum of 100 years. This region in Western Australia was recognised as significantly over-cleared, and the reforestation is: providing protective habitat for native flora and fauna; reducing wind and water erosion; in some cases reducing soil salinity and some cases providing a useful environment for sheep and honey bees.

The Carbon Conscious Carbon Capture Offsetting Project 1

On the 17th of March 2023 Redbook and the wider Godfrey Hirst organisation held our largest Take 3 for the Sea beach clean-up event to date! This now being our third beach clean-up event in as many years, as well as continuing to be an official supporter of Take 3 for the Sea, we are proud to get behind such an important organisation.

In only one hour, our 31-person strong team along with Take 3 for the Sea representatives collected 1,657 litter items weighing 7kg altogether. Working to remove this litter from our environment helps to protect our animals, ecosystems, and oceans.

Eastern Beach is a popular waterfront area with high traffic, especially on a beautiful sunny afternoon, like we had! The team were in good spirits as they set out to clean up the beach, and showed great dedication to the task, collecting waste from areas that clearly hadn't been cleaned in a while. They also did a great job of accurately recording their findings, providing detailed data collection sheets to help identify waste sources. The most abundant item found was cigarette butts, with one group finding a whopping 186 butts and a total of 562 were removed from the beach. Amazing work!’

We’re doing better together, to recycle our metal waste. Redbook strive to recycle wherever possible to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing operations. We’re always looking for new ways to reduce what we send to landfill.

Sims Metal regularly collect metal scraps and old unused machinery from our manufacturing operations. With 36,900 kilograms of metal collected by Sims Metal from Redbook&nbsp;premises in 2022. All metal is then processed or broken down in order to be repurposed. All of the metal collected from our sites here in Geelong is reused and repurposed within Australia.

Sims Metal is the leading collector, processor, and supplier of recycled metal in Australia. Servicing all states and territories across 30 physical locations. With over 100 years of experience in the metal recycling industry Sims Metal and significant investment in future growth of operations to continue to promote and provide recycling support worldwide.

Sims Metal Recycling

At Redbook, efforts to advance our shared mission of a more sustainable future continue. Having already fitted 436 solar panels on our warehouses in Truganina and Laverton, we’ve now completed our largest ever installation.&nbsp;

Plant 5, our North Geelong carpet tufting facility, is now the proud owner of a 500kW solar system. Covering 12,000m2 of the facility’s roof, the 1,088 460W panels generate up to 1.97MWh of clean energy per day, offsetting over 60% of daytime electricity. &nbsp;

This will help to power the production of over 16,000 lineal metres of carpet each day and reduce electricity bills at the Plant by an average of 28%.

To deliver this transformation, we used Tier 1 JA Solar 460W monocrystalline solar panels on the north facing side of the Plant, together with SolarEdge three phase inverters and optimisers. Recognised amongst the best bankable solar technology globally, the optimisers increase system production by tracking the maximum power of each panel.&nbsp;

The smart meter technology from SolarEdge also provides load monitoring, so we can see how much solar power is being consumed on site and exported. Plus, real-time monitoring of individual panels, making it easy to find and diagnose any faults.

As a proud Australian manufacturer, it’s important to us that we source and develop local solutions where possible.

By transforming the Plant 5 roof into an energy resource, we’re not only cutting operating costs locally, but carbon emissions globally.&nbsp;

It’s another Resource Stewardship initiative that supports our Climate Active Carbon Neutral Organisation certification to cut greenhouse gas emissions across the entire business. Now at Plant 5, any surplus solar not consumed by the plant will be exported to the grid, and we’ll offset approximately 515 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

Striving for better, Redbook is on a journey to achieving a circular economy, by repurposing and recycling end-of-life flooring products. We’re always looking for new ways to reduce what we send to landfill.

Geelong based company GT Recycling, supported by Deakin University, approached Redbook with the idea of recycling pre-consumer carpet waste and turning it into an innovative recycled reinforced concrete product. Eager to assist, we offered our carpet waste and industry knowledge to assist in the development of the concept product - FibreCrete.

As an Australian and New Zealand manufacturer, we actively work towards reducing our environmental footprint across our infrastructure and facilities. We strive to improve processes and seek to source and develop local solutions to this global issue under our sustainability vision, Believe in Better.

Large factory and warehouse facilities generally require a sizeable system for lighting. These systems can result in a significant energy drain so, with that in mind, we upgraded our lighting systems to energy-efficient LED lights.

Between late 2021 and early 2023, we have replaced approximately 75% of the lights at our Plant 5 and Melbourne Logistics sites and our South Geelong and Breakwater sites with higher-efficiency LED models. This was achieved through the LED Light Replacement/Upgrade under the Victorian Energy Upgrades rebate program.

The light fittings replaced included high-bay units in production and warehousing areas, as well as 4-foot battens, some oyster-style lights in bathrooms and small offices, and some panel-style fittings in office areas. Exit lights were also replaced at Plant 5 with an LED version.

The new fittings include programable features such as motion sensors, light level sensors and automatic timer-off functions to allow us to configure the operation of the light fittings to suit the environment and application – maximising energy savings.

Reduced Water Consumption

Dye Washing 
With the introduction of a new dye washing line which has dramatically reduced our energy consumption and water consumption within this process which will save 500 Litres per minute of water during a production run. This new initiative is just one of the ways that we are becoming more sustainable for our planet and reducing our environmental footprint.

Latex Application 
Latex application during our manufacturing process utilises water to adhere a secondary backing to the carpet. We have recently introduced a new initiative that recycles the water utilised in our latex application process which is done weekly in large batches. This new initiative has resulted in significant water consumption savings with 600L less water being used every 14-tonne latex batch.

Get to it as quickly as possible Get to any spills as quickly as possible to prevent the stain from penetrating into the carpet fibres, this is what leads to discolouration and marks. Hot liquids especially can be difficult to remove once cooled.4. Try warm water Most common carpet stains caused by household food and beverage (not containing strong dyes) can be treated with warm water (not hot) applied to the carpet stain immediately. Dampen a clean cloth with the warm water and blot it onto the carpet, working from the outside in, until the stain disappears.If you have a triexta carpet from our <a href="https://www.redbookcarpets.com/product-types/triexta-carpet">Redbook Triexta range</a>, cold water will work just fine. Just use this mix with a clean cloth, as you did with the warm water, dabbing from the outside in.Wool Carpet Cleaner 1 teaspoon of wool laundry detergent 1 teaspoon of white vinegar 1 litre of warm waterSynthetic carpet cleaner&nbsp; 1 teaspoon mild wool laundry detergent 1 teaspoon of white vinegar 1 litre of warm water.6. Carpet stain removal If you have determined that your carpet stain is more than your average spill, use your carpet's care guide's stain removal section to determine the most appropriate method.7. Test it first Pre-test the stain removal treatment on a small, less conspicuous area of carpet to make sure it doesn't damage or change the carpet colour.8. Press the carpet dry between treatments Press dry the carpet with a clean white towel or paper towel to remove excess moisture between any steps in the cleaning process.9. Dry the carpet Once the spill has been treated, place a few layers of paper towel or white cloth over the area and weigh it down with a couple of heavy books, an upturned coffee table or something heavy that won't transfer colour. This will absorb any residual moisture.10. Don't walk on the carpet until it's dry Cover the mark with a chair or coffee table, make sure no one walks on the carpet until it is completely dry. Even once it is dry to touch the pad underneath may still be damp, keep it free from foot traffic as long as possible. A hairdryer and also speed up the drying process, but be sure not to overheat the area and scorch your carpet.11. Remember, don't rub and don't scrub You see how important it is that you blot and don't scrub? It's so important we mentioned it twice!12. It is important that all carpet is professionally installed in accordance with Australian Standard 2455.1 “Textile Floor Coverings – Installation Practice – General” and Redbook Carpets Installation Recommendations. Professional installation is a must. If you don't have carpet installed correctly it can void your warranty.

In basing design on the stress-reductive quality found in fractals, the transdisciplinary design team of 13&9 Design, Fractals Research, and Mohawk Group are tapping into our deep-seated desire to see patterns, to connect to nature and to have more inspiring and relaxing environments in which we live and work. 

Fractals are the building blocks of many of nature’s patterns and have been scientifically proven to reduce stress and so provide benefits to physical health. This visual language is the basis for Relaxing Floors, a modular system designed by 13&9 in collaboration with Fractals Research and Mohawk Group. Relaxing Floors is the culmination of art, science and human-centered design based on fractal patterns. Utilising fractals gives our eyes a break from the digital world and delivers the essence of nature to the contract build environment.

Dreamtime Flooring was born in 2022 from a deep aspiration drawn from director, Josh Haddock’s connection to Indigenous culture, this is the essence of Dreamtime Flooring: the missing link connecting culture, artwork and flooring. This can only come from engaging with a 100% Indigenously owned business-like Dreamtime Flooring. Josh being a Yorta Yorta man raised in Morwell, VIC on Gunai Kurnai Country himself, wanted to create a business that celebrated the Indigenous culture through flooring while engaging with other Indigenous businesses, helping to streamline income back into Indigenous communities.

For generations, Indigenous people have shared culture through stories and artwork. At Dreamtime Flooring, Indigenous heritage is drawn from to celebrate this rich culture through the flooring medium in the hopes of preserving those stories for our future generations. 

Dreamtime's mission is to have as many buildings as possible for current and future generations to see Aboriginal ancestry and culture with a particular focus on public buildings: Government, council, schools, libraries and galleries. Their intention is not only focused around sharing their culture with generations to come but also to engage these future generations with employment opportunities, apprenticeships and traineeships, as they believe it is a vital step into raising a talented, educated Indigenous community with the footprints to walk towards the future.
